Origen Air September Updates
We had a productive, fast-paced month at Origen Air! In this blog post, you will find updates on our new research grant project through Mitacs, information on our new team members, and the progress of our most recent pitches. Our goal is to keep you informed as we continue to grow and make positive changes in developing our technologies.
Innovative Technology Receives Two-Year Mitacs Research Grant
Origen Air is honoured to announce its collaborative two-year research project with the University of Victoria - School of Engineering through Mitacs funding. The project aims to build, test, and validate our SENTINEL and HVAC-Integrated ORIGEN CANOPY products. We have hired two Civil Engineering Master’s Interns, a Mechanical Engineering Co-op Student, and a Mechanical Engineer Ph.D. Candidate with HVAC and airflow expertise. Our CEO, Susan Blanchet, will also be participating in the W Venture UVic cohort at the same time working with a mentor skilled in prototype sensor technology to provide valuable feedback during the design/build.
Our team went from two to three to seven to twelve staff, making Origen one of the fastest growing tech start-ups in BC! This week, we moved from our character home office in downtown Victoria to a brand new corporate office space to accommodate our team's rapid growth. We are so grateful for our time at 924 McClure Street and to the Isherwood's for their generosity. The groundwork for Origen Air was built there, and we have so many great memories in our first office. In our new space, sustainable ideas will continue to grow and change the world!
Pitches For A Healthier World
Origen Air has been a Foresight company since October 2019, working with five skilled EIRs completing Launch, Deliver, and Sales courses, in addition to pitching at VANTEC on two occasions. We had the privilege of pitching at Foresight Pitch Night on September 16th.
This month, we had our final interview with IndieBio NY, a start-up accelerator in New York City that empowers teams to finish prototype development and build investor and business connections over a four-month program. If we are successful, it would mean $250,000 USD of funding and an exciting four months in New York City in 2021 to help skyrocket Origen Air’s growth. We also had our final interviews on September 17th for Creative Destruction Lab - West’s Health Cohort, with Mr. Wilson making cameo appearances.
